Concertina(Crabb)

Bushing the Keys

I repaired satomi's Crabb concertina a little.

I removed the old bushings from the bushing boards. Then, I inserted the new ones into the key holes.

It took a whole day for me to replace all bushings because I'd never done it before.

The Drunken Guager [Funny Tailor] (set dance) - Concertina Solo

I learned this set dance from The Final Round by Kevin Joyce. I think the A part has 5 bars and the B part also has 5 bars. The B part is repeated.

I played my wife's 38-key C/G Crabb concertina.

There is another set dance which has the same name. It's a good tune, too!

The Sprig of Shillig (set dance) - Concertina Solo

I learned this set dance from The Final Round by Kevin Joyce. The A part has only 6 bars and the B part has 10 bars.

This is a picture of the B&B where we stayed in Ennis in 2003.

I played my wife's 38-key C/G Crabb concertina.

The Blackthorn Stick (set dance) - Concertina Solo

I learned this tune from The Final Round by Kevin Joyce. It is an unusual tune which has only 15 bars. It's fun for me to play it!

I played our 10 concertinas...Rochelle, Clover, Edgley, Wakker, Suttner, Dipper, Crabb, C/G Jeffries, Bb/F Jeffries, Ab/Eb Jeffries. Can you match the sound files with the makers?

I played a 6 keyed flute in D made by Eamonn Cotter and my wife played a 38 key C/G Crabb concertina.

PS : I uploaded our recording on YouTube.

Anglo concertina: Crabb

I bought a used C/G Crabb anglo concertina from Barleycorn Concertinas (Chris Algar) in September, 2001. I bought it for my wife.

Layout : Jeffries layout
Reedpan : Parallel reedpan
Bellows : 6 fold bellows
Ends : Flat metal ends
Keys : 38 metal keys

It is responsive and has great low notes. She had enjoyed playing it for many years until she got a Suttner concertina.
